Porto Confirms Fabio Vieira’s £30m Transfer to Arsenal.
After concluding a £30 million-plus add-ons agreement for Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira, Arsenal have made their first significant acquisition of the summer season.
The 22-year-old’s departure to join Arsenal was officially announced by the Portuguese club in a statement.
Arsenal will initially spend £30 million on Vieira, with a possible further £ 4 million in add-ons, according to the Portuguese publication.
In order to get a physical and sign with the Gunners, Vieira had to shorten his vacation in Mykonos.
With the acquisition of Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City and Youri Tielemans from Leicester, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal may have found the beginning of a fruitful transfer window.
Vieira, a dynamic offensive midfielder who joined Porto as a young player, assisted them in winning the Portuguese championship the previous year.
In 27 league games for Porto last season, the Portugal Under-21 international had a breakout campaign, scoring six goals and dishing out 14 assists to help the team win its 30th league championship.
Vieira joins a bright group of artistic talents that also includes Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka, and Martin Odegaard. During the 2021–22 Premier League season, no Arsenal player was involved in as many goals as Vieira.
Given that Arsenal’s Big Six competitors have moved rapidly to bolster in crucial areas, Arteta has already acquired young striker Marquinhos, and the addition of Vieira is a major help.
Although Leicester and Arsenal have not yet agreed on a price for the 25-year-old Belgian, the Spaniard is still interested in signing Tielemans.
In a recent statement, Tielemans promised to “examine my alternatives in the summer and make a choice.”
After being denied a chance to play in the Champions League, Arteta plans to recruit additional attacking reinforcements during the summer.
The Gunners have intensified their chase of Jesus, who is worth about £50 million.
Jesus’ initial asking price is roughly £30-35 million-plus add-ons, but the champs are refusing to budge.
