COVID 19 tests in England have rendered to 16 new positive cases in the Premier League where the club staff and players have tested positive in the latest round of tests.

Over the past week, the Premier League conducted 3,115 tests across two rounds. Between January 11th and January 14th, there were 10 new positive tests and six more were added to the list between January 15th and 17th.

A league statement read, “the Premier League can today confirm that between Monday 11 January and Sunday 17 January, across two rounds of testing 3,115 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19. Of these, there were 16 new positive tests”.

However, the number is significantly down on the 36 positive tests following the previous weeks’ round of testing. Consequently, the Premier League has not made it known any club affected neither has it given details of any individual who tested positive.

Six Premier League matches have been postponed due to the coronavirus cases this season. Most recently, Aston Villa’s game at home to Everton on Sunday because of the ongoing outbreak at Villa Park.

Newcastle’s game away at Villa on 4th December, Everton vs Manchester City on 28th December, Tottenham vs Fulham on 30th December, Burnley vs Fulham on 3rd January and Spur’s trip to Villa on 13th January were the other games called off.

But, the Premier League along with the Football Association and the English Football League released a joint statement on Thursday reiterating the importance of following newly enhanced COVID-19 rules.

Also, they have begun rescheduling the postponed fixtures with Spurs playing out their meeting with Fulham in place of the cancelled game against Aston Villa.
