Premier League: Burnley Vs Manchester United – Match preview
After winning their previous away match at Brentford, the ‘Red Devils’ now go in search of back-to-back Premier League away victories for the first time since September.
Burnley
It’s game 5000 in English league football since the foundation of the football league in 1888 for Burnley, and it’s a nice easy one – Manchester United! Of course that’s just irony, as Burnley own a dismal H2H record against United of late, with just one win in their last 14 clashes. A 0-0 draw with relegation rivals Watford last time out – their fifth such league result this campaign – heaps even more pressure on this match for rock-bottom Burnley, who have only scored two Premier League goals since the start of December and are now winless in nine top-flight games. Their task is heightened when you consider only one of their ten historical Premier League goals against United came at Turf Moor, and only three times since the start of 2021 have Burnley scored more than once on home soil in the Premier League.
Manchester United
United’s confidence could be at rock bottom too after an FA Cup humbling at the hands of Middlesbrough, although this match marks a welcome return to league action, with United having won six of their last nine Premier League games. After winning their previous away match at Brentford, the ‘Red Devils’ now go in search of back-to-back Premier League away victories for the first time since September. You wouldn’t bet against United achieving that considering their last five visits to Turf Moor have seen them win ‘to nil’. One more such win would see Ralf Rangnick’s side write themselves into the Burnley history books as only the second side ever to win six away league matches in a row against the ‘Clarets’ without conceding a goal.
Burnley will be glad to have Maxwel Cornet back from AFCON action, and five of his six Premier League goals have arrived during the 30-60 minute period. Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford has enjoyed facing Burnley of late, with three-goal involvements in his last three personal H2Hs. No Premier League side has scored fewer league goals beyond the 60th minute than Burnley (two).
