Bruno Rodriguez, who also took a brief spell at Bradford, was left in chronic pain after his 16-year playing career.
What does the organization’s statement say?
PSG sent a message of support to the Frenchman after seeing the former striker have his leg amputated due to the constant suffering he has endured since his retirement. Rodriguez enjoyed a 16 year career playing for 11 different clubs including Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco. Bruno eventually retired in 2005 but has since struggled with chronic pain as a result of his pitching workload and had to undergo major surgery.
The French players’ union has confirmed that the 49-year-old man had one of his legs amputated to end the pain once and for all. The organization said in a statement that the UNFP is passing on strength and courage to Rodriguez, who, as a result of his football career, had to resort to leg amputation due to constant suffering.
Paris Saint-Germain also sent their best wishes to the player through their social media channels, inviting him to return to the Parc des Princes as soon as he can. The club wrote on social media that PSG is sending a message of support to their former striker Rodriguez, his family and loved ones in this ordeal. The club brings them all its strength and hopes to welcome them to the Parc des Princes as soon as possible.
A little about Bruno Rodriguez
Bruno began his career in Monaco in 1989 and spent two years on their books before joining Bastia, where he made his mark in France, scoring 19 goals in 55 games. He then took a brief spell in Strasbourg before joining the Metz, where he managed to produce his best form between 1997 and 1999, finding the net 30 times through 73 appearances.
Paris Saint-Germain then called and he scored six goals in his only season in Paris, which began with a loan to Bradford that had to be canceled after five games. Bruno was sold to Lens in the summer of 2000 and was loaned to Guingamp, Rayo Vallecano, Ajaccio and his former club Metz over the next four years before being sold to Clermont Foot for the 2004-05 season in the final swansong.
