The Match 16th of the PSL 2022 was not less than a thriller as unbeatable Multan Sultans sealed a spot in the Playoffs after defeating Peshawar Zalmi by 42 runs.

PSL 2022, MUL vs PES:

They are now placed at the top spot in the Points Table with eight points in their kitty after winning all the six matches so far.

Multan Sultans opener Shan Masood laid the foundation of their big win by scoring 68 runs at the top order. As usual Sultans openers didn’t let their team down as the duo of Rizwan & Masood stitched a 98 run stand within the power-play overs. Masood was excellent but Rizwan was seen struggling to set on the crease especially in front of Zalmi’s spin attack & soon got dismissed after scoring 34 runs on board.

After Rizwan’s dismissal, Tim David’s quick 18 balls 34 helped to keep Sultans on track. David was pretty sure of his shots as he headed strong by hitting three sixes & two fours. Sultans could have registered a mammoth total on board but Zalmi ensured scalping wickets at timely intervals to restrict Sultans to 182. Just 7 runs came off the last over, but 74 runs came in between overs 14 and 19.

Zalmi on the other hand couldn’t get off to a good start as they were reduced to 5 for 2 in the second over with Blessing Muzarabani dismissing both their openers cheaply. Liam Livingstone and Shoaib Malik revived the chase, but once they got dismissed, Sultans bowlers struck at regular intervals to restrict them from scoring big.

Zalmi’s lone fighter Shoaib Malik kept his team in the chase but couldn’t find support from the end. Meanwhile, Ben Cutting came in and smashed Shahnawaz Dahani for two sixes and a four but his counterattack didn’t make much of a difference as Zalmi were bowled out for 140 in the final over. Peshawar Zalmi who is currently placed at the second last position in the Points Table slipped to their fourth loss this season by winning just two games out of six matches played.
