Multan Sultans beat Quetta Gladiators by 8 runs in a last-over PSL 2022 thriller on Monday to register their third consecutive win in the tournament. Multan Sultans batted first and managed to post a formidable total of 174 runs on the board.

Opener Shan Masood starred with the bat as he played an outstanding knock of 88 runs in 58 deliveries. Skipper M Rizwan got out without opening his account, while the likes of Maqsood (21 off 23) and Rossouw (21 off 19) failed to convert the starts into big scores.

 

Tim David later, played an unbeaten 28-run cameo off 16 balls to take the team to a competitive score on the board. 

 

With the ball, M Hasnain bowled an outstanding spell of 2 for 27, while Faulkner finished with impressive figures of 1 for 22 in 4 overs. 

 

In response to the total, both the openers went back to the hut inside the powerplay. However, Ben Duckett then played an outstanding 47-run knock off 32 balls to lead a remarkable recovery. Sarfaraz Ahmed also chipped in with a 21-run knock off 23 balls.  

 

Just when it looked like the match was going out of the hands of Multan Sultans, Imran Tahir sent Duckett and Ashir Qureshi back to the hut in the space of two deliveries. Sarfaraz Ahmed then got out off Khushdil Shah to leave the team in trouble at 105 for 5 after 14 overs. 

 

Iftikhar Ahmed then played a valuable 30-run knock off 13 balls, while James Faulkner (18 off 12) and Sohail Tanvir (13 off 8) also played short little cameos. But with 8 runs needed in the final over, Quetta Gladiators fell 6 runs short of the target.
