The situation

Up to thirteen players from the Real Madrid first team will play the World Cup in Qatar with their respective teams. The thirteen chosen, in alphabetical order of the country, are: Rüdiger (Germany), Courtois and Hazard (Belgium), Militao, Rodrygo and Vinicius (Brazil), Modric (Croatia), Carvajal and Asensio (Spain) ,Benzema, Camavinga and Tchouameni (France) and Valverde (Uruguay). Those summoned for the World Cup in Russia-2018 are lowered by two. So there were fifteen players called up by their respective national teams (Kroos, Casemiro, Marcelo, Keylor Navas, Modric, Kovacic, Carvajal, Nacho, Lucas Vázquez, Sergio Ramos, Asensio, Isco, Varane, Achraf and Cristiano), and they outnumber one those summoned for Brazil-2014 (then there were 12 white players present) and in three of those summoned for the appointments of France-1998, Korea and Japan-2002, Germany-2006 and South Africa-2010: in all four there were 10 representatives (between all the selections) to the maximum soccer tournament.

The details

Brazil and France, with three players each, are the most represented teams by the white club, in the Asian event. Not since the World Cup in Brazil in 1950 has Madrid had so few players in the Spanish National Team. Then only Luis Molowny came. Quite the opposite of four years ago. Then Carvajal, Nacho, Lucas Vázquez, Sergio Ramos, Asensio and Isco attended. In this only two repeat with respect to the Russian appointment: Carvajal and Asensio. Also at the Italy-1990 meeting there were six madridistas on the list of then coach Luis Suárez: Chendo, Hierro, Sanchís, Martín Vázquez, Míchel and Butragueño. Six madridistas also attended the World Cup in England-1966: Betancort, Pirri, Sanchis (father), Zoco, Amancio and Gento. It was the editions of Chile-1962 and Mexico-1986 where more Spanish players attended. In those two Championships, Madrid had seven representatives with the Spanish National Team. Araquistain, Pachín, Santamaría, Del Sol, Di Stéfano, Puskas (the latter two as Spaniards despite being born in Argentina and Hungary, respectively) and Gento traveled to the first. The second were Camacho, Maceda, Chendo, Gordillo, Gallego, Míchel and Butragueño. Except for the 1930 and 1954 editions, to which Spain did not attend, there was always a madridista representative (either in the national team or representing his country) in the competition. The first World Cup madridistas were Zamora, Ciriaco, Quincoces and Luis Regueiro in 1934. 16 years later it was Luis Molowny who attended the World Cup in Brazil.
