Inter Milan striker, Romelu Lukaku racially abused by Cagliari fans as he scored from the penalty spot giving his club a 2-1 win in Serie A.

Romulu Lukaku racialLukaku has just joined the list of the football players facing racial abuse in the season. In the past weeks, we witnessed Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford from Manchester United being subjects of the abuse. This is when the two players missed out penalties on different grounds.

Lukaku is the latest black player to suffer abuse from Cagliari fans. This calls for immediate actions.
After scoring, the 26-year-old striker stood and stared at the fans behind the goal where monkey chants were coming from.
Consequently, the racist abuse understandably overshadowed the Inter Milan win, which earned Antonio Conte two wins from two at the start of the season.

“Cagliari has a history for this,” said the European football’s anti-discrimination body.

Inter defender Milan Skriniar condemned such actions from fans in a post-match interview. “These are things that must not be in football.”

However, Inter boss Antonio Conte had his chance to respond to the “monkey Chants.” He said, “I didn’t hear anything from the bench. However, in general Italy is in need of more education.”
Lukaku was playing in his second game for Conte’s side in Cagliari’s Sardegna Arena after his £74m singing from Manchester United this summer.

Moise Kean from Everton last season also suffered similar abuse when playing against Cagliari for Juventus. The incident became a bigger issue when Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri and defender Leonardo Bonucci appeared to suggest Kean should take some of the blame for the way he celebrated after scoring a goal.
Serie A decodes not to sanction Cagliari for their fans’ racism despite admitting their actions were ‘reprehensible.”

The previous year, fans were called out for abusing Blaise Matuidi, a Juventus player. Disappointingly, Italian football chiefs did not take any action.

In 2017, Pescara midfielder, Sully Muntari walked off the pitch after he faced racial abuse from Cagliari fans as well. The midfielder was subsequently banned by football authorities for his protest.

Members of Cagliari’s social media channels heavily criticize Cagliari. Unfortunately, the club has not yet addressed Sunday’s abuse.

Having the racial critics set aside, Inter Milan is now top of the Serie A on six points after two rounds with Torino and Champions Juventus.
Conte’s side welcomes Udinese to San Siro in their next league fixture after the international break.
