The English player explained why he joined the Blues this summer, revealing that he didn’t want to agree not to be a guaranteed starter for the Citizens during his peak years. The Englishman’s illustrious seven-year spell at the Etihad Stadium came to an end this summer when the player won every honor available to him except the Champions League during his time with Manchester City.

In recent seasons, however, Raheem Sterling has gone down a pecking order under Guardiola, having previously been one of the top names on the team list. The Blues paid £47.5m for the Englishman in July and the player has already made his Chelsea debut, starting on the opening day of the PL season in a 1-0 away win over Everton.

Speaking at a press conference toasting his arrival in west London, the England international explained why he felt the need to move on from the Citizens. Raheem Sterling said he simply felt that his time at Manchester City was limited to playing time for various reasons. According to Sterling, he couldn’t afford to waste more time. When Raheem look back to the future, he didn’t want to see a rise and then a decline. A new call had to be made.

From the age of 17, he regularly starts. When Sterling gets to peak time, playing less regularly, he wouldn’t accept it. Raheem Sterling says he always tries to fight and change the script. But he didn’t come, and that was it.

The England international said that with the options he had, it was one that was tailored to suit his personal goals, family it makes a lot of sense and the direction the club is going. According to Raheem Sterling they’ll look at Chelsea the last couple of years, he thinks it’s the four or five finals they’ve been to. This is a team that shows they are competing and they will only get better. With new ownership, it made a lot of sense.
