Raheem Sterling Wants Guarantees Over Playing Time if He Joins Chelsea
If he is to make a spectacular transfer from Manchester City to Chelsea this summer, Raheem Sterling is said to be demanding assurances about his playing time.
Last season, the 74-cap England forward won his second Premier League championship with City. He appeared 47 times in all competitions and scored 17 goals although he has not always been first choice at the Etihad.
Sterling has been linked with a move away from City, with Chelsea being one of the clubs interested in signing him.
Several European heavyweights, according to reports, believe Sterling is open to leaving the club, despite the fact that he has yet to disclose his plans.
Chelsea want to buy Sterling for roughly £60 million, according to The Sun, but the player wants assurances from manager Thomas Tuchel that he would not be kept on the bench.
Sterling, who joined City from Liverpool for about £49 million in 2015, wants to play regularly in order to increase his chances of being picked for England’s World Cup team in Qatar.
His contract at the Etihad expires in 2023, so Pep Guardiola’s side might sell him this summer to avoid losing him for free, although the club could want for £50 million to £60 million.
The 27-year-old revealed in October that he may depart owing to a lack of playing time, and stopped negotiations with the club regarding his future to see if the situation altered.
Despite starting 23 of City’s 38 league games last season, he remained on the bench for numerous crucial games, notably both legs of their Champions League semi-final loss to Real Madrid.
The additions of strikers Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez, as well as additional playing time for Jack Grealish in his second season, may limit his playing time even further.
Under new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly, whose group just finalized a £4.25 billion acquisition of the club, Sterling may become a headline signing.
