Despite being likely to be selected as Austria’s new coach, Ralf Rangnick reaffirmed that he will take up a two-year consultant post at Man United at the end of the season.
The Austrian FA president, Gerhard Milletich, might ratify Rangnick’s appointment as Franco Foda’s successor as early as today.
The 63-year-old has three games left as United’s interim manager before handing over to incoming boss Erik ten Hag at the conclusion of the season, and he needs to win all three to match the club’s lowest-ever Premier League point total. Despite a lackluster tenure as manager, United has extended Rangnick’s contract until 2024, with an emphasis on recruitment and the possibility of working as few as six days per month. The German revealed that his contract with United allowed him to take on another job, but he refused to comment on his upcoming appointment as Austrian president. Last night, United also refused to comment on the subject.
Rangnick remarked, “I’d like to speak tonight about Manchester United and our games and the rest of the season.” ‘I can also confirm that my consulting job will absolutely continue at the end of this season.’ I didn’t say I’d play a significant role in the future, but we’ve finally agreed on the nature and duration of my consulting job.
‘It would free up space for another job, but we committed to start with that in November of last year.’
‘Erik and I haven’t spoken to each other yet. Hopefully, this will happen in the future. But, as I previously stated, I am more than willing to assist and alter things for the better.’
Former United captain Roy Keane, on the other hand, will not be alone in believing that a clean split is in everyone’s best interests. ‘It simply adds to the complexity,’ Keane said.
