Man United’s new interim manager Ralf Rangnick has received a tour of Old Trafford after his Covid quarantine came to an end.

The new Man United’s interim manager, Ralf Rangnick will not be in the dug-out for Thursday’s PL clash with Arsenal as he awaits confirmation of a work permit. However, today, he has toured the Old Trafford touchline for the first time as the boss.

The German coach was spotted by United’s fan, Oliver Hunt who was also on a tour of the stadium. The club’s football director John Murtaugh appeared to be giving Rangnick the guided walk with the coach stopping to chat to former defender Wes Brown as he made his way around the pitch.

Once again, caretaker manager Michael Carrick is set to take charge of the third game for Arsenal’s visit. Meanwhile, Rangnick will be watching from the stands. But suppose Rangnick’s work permit is granted in time, his first game in charge will be Sunday’s home fixture with Crystal Palace as he is needed to convince a Football Association panel of his managerial credentials to secure his permit.

This is because it is understood that Rangnick does not meet the FA’s criteria for a Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) as he has not managed a top-flight club in Europe for long enough in the last five years either two consecutive years or three years cumulatively.

Although he twice took charge of RB Leipzig in the 2015/16 and 2018/19 seasons and at the same time worked as the club’s director of football, that is considered not to be enough to automatically qualify for GBE.

Therefore, his GBE will need to be approved by a three-man exceptions panel appointed by the FA and chaired by a legal professional and two other figures with a football background.

United are hopeful the work permit will come through before the end of the week to enable Rangnick to be in the dug-out against Crystal Palace.
