Ralf Rangnick, during his tenure as interim manager at Old Trafford, failed to make four top finishes and qualify for the Champions League.

What did Ralf Rangnick say?

The German manager admits he will come out of the dugout to the Red Devils with some regrets as he could have done some things differently as Rangnick believes the current model at Old Trafford is not viable. Ralf Rangnick answered an SOS challenge from the PL heavyweights in November 2021 on the back of Solskjaer’s sacking and inherited the managerial reins on an interim basis until the end of the season.

He was initially able to pull up Man Utd from behind, but more leaks soon surfaced as Co and Ronaldo were questioned in the final third of the field, leaving the ambitious outfit facing up to another season without Champions League football and a big summer makeover in the transfer market.

Asked if there are things he and the club could have done differently during a frustrating period, the German tactician said, reflecting on his reign, that of course they do it after every training session, after every game they play. Not only here, but as Rangnick said, they were on a good track. They developed the team, conceding fewer goals in the first couple of weeks and months, then all of a sudden they had trouble scoring their own goals because they conceded some offensive players.

But, according to Ralf Rangnick, as he said, in general they were not sustainable. They failed to develop the team in a sustainable way and stabilize it in all relevant areas. Rangnick thinks that’s why they are where they are.

What’s next for Man Utd?

The German led Man Utd to its worst finish of the PL era, with the top four once again out of reach. There is still a chance that Manchester United will drop to seventh on the final day, meaning Europa League football next season, but there is determination on the part of all concerned to finish on a positive note away at Crystal Palace and avoid the second tier of competition on Thursday night.
