Man Utd are still keen on the PSG boss, although Ralf Rangnick will take over before the end of the 2021-22 season.
Ralf Rangnick will manage until the end of the season
The Red Devils are finalizing Rangnick’s appointment as their interim manager for the rest of the season. Man Utd has had advanced negotiations with the 63-year-old and he is expected to be announced shortly as Solskjaer’s short-term replacement. PSG boss Pochettino was on Man Utd’s radar, and the League 1 giants repulsed the initial request, although Ralf Rangnick will be in control of the ship for the rest of the season.
A little about the topic
The Red Devils settled on hiring an interim manager after Ole’s firing, with Man Utd believing they will be fighting to land Mauricio, their permanent first-choice target. The former Tottenham boss is interested in moving to Old Trafford and would be open to leaving Paris Saint-Germain mid-season. However, it is clear that the middlemen sounded on the French side due to the fact that they let him go and were beaten back, and the Ligue 1 side is not interested in letting their head coach leave during the season.
Consequently, the United Nations Board of Directors worked on a five-man shortlist that included former Barcelona boss Valverde as they sought Solskjaer’s interim successor. It is understood that the conversations with Ralf Rangnick have been positive and he is expected to take over the position for the sixth month. Then he can stay in a consultant role after next season. Ralf had reservations about a weekend job following Ole’s firing, as he had no interest in a short-term, six-month deal. It is clear that he changed his mind, however, after United offered him the role to stay after the end of his temporary spell.
Ralf Rangnick’s football activities
During his coaching career, Ralf has managed five Bundesliga clubs including RB Leipzig and Schalke. It was with Schalke that he enjoyed the greatest success, finishing second in Germany’s best flight in the 2004-05 season, while he claimed the DFL-Supercup and DFB-Pokal fame in 2011. In 2012, Ralf became director of football for both Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig, with the 63-year-old playing a significant role in helping the former rise from the fourth echelon of German football to the Bundesliga. Ralf is currently the Sports and Development Manager on the side of the Russian Premier League Lokomotiv Moscow, where he was assigned the role back in July 2021.
