Ralf Rangnick is set to hand Paul Pogba his first competitive minutes since November against Middlesbrough.

A little about the topic

Interim manager Man Utd has confirmed that French footballer Pogba is in line to start in the third round of the FA Cup on Friday and has also chosen what he sees as the Red Devils star’s strongest position. Paul has not played for Man Utd since the 2-2 Champions League draw against Atalanta on 2 November, picking up a serious groin injury a week later while on international duty with France. Man Utd’s turbulent season has continued in the Frenchman’s absence with Ralf now in charge on an interim basis after replacing the sacked Solskjaer, but he intends to return to action against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup in a timely manner.

What did Rangnick say about Paul Pogba?

Ralf is considering giving Paul a spot in his starting XI for the third round tie at Old Trafford and sees him playing a box role in his current setup. Asked if he could get the best out of the French footballer, Ralf Rangnick said in a pre-match press conference that he didn’t know. Ralf is happy to have Paul Pogba back and he can play from the start tomorrow. Rangnick sees his best possible position for him as one of the central midfield positions, like 8 or 10, but the way they are currently playing, Ralf would prefer to see him at 8, but they’ll have to look.

The German manager added about the need for Paul’s to play as the last few months of his contract approached, that now his contract expires in the summer and if in the end Pogba would like to stay or go somewhere else where he should appear. According to Ralf Rangnick it’s not only in their best interest as a club, but also in his personal interest that he plays and performs at the highest possible level in the next couple of weeks.
