Hazard’s another injury setback
Real Madrid have confirmed that Eden Hazard diagnosed another injury setback, with the Belgian nursing a thigh complaint. The 29-year-old forward played less than 30 minutes of the Real Madrid’s La Liga clash with Alaves on Saturday. Hazard limped off the field to be replaced by Rodrygo and was experiencing in some discomfort. Zinedine Zidane said after the game that he hoped that the problem, picked up by Hazard, will not be too serious. Real Madrid boss told reporters: “I think and hope it’s just a knock. I hope it’s not muscular”. Zidane has now been offered the update he wanted to avoid. With it revealed that Hazard had suffered muscle damage. A statement on the Blancos’ official website read: “According to the tests carried out today on our player Eden Hazard, Real Madrid Medical Services, he was diagnosed with the rectus femoris muscle injury of his right leg.
Only 22 appearances in all competitions in 2019-2020
“His recovery will continue to be assessed”. It is unclear how long Hazard will fade be sidelined for, but spells on the treatment table have been all too frequent throughout his time in the Spanish capital. The form was difficult to come by as a result, without the momentum established in his game. Real Madrid had been longing for much more from a player, that they invested €100 million in when doing a big-money deal with Chelsea in the summer of 2019. Much of Hazard’s debut campaign at Santiago Bernabeu had to be written off, with injury struggles suffered from the start. As a result, he was limited to just 22 appearances in all competitions in 2019-20, with only one goal recorded. This count has already been doubled, but regular breaks are still being taken in.
Eden’s outing against Alaves was only his third in LaLiga this season, with only 153 minutes of Spanish top-flight action seen. The Los Blancos do boast the strength in depth to counter such absences. With a lot of creative attacking talents at Zidane’s disposal. But frustration builds up when it comes to the Belgium international. Hazard was supposed to be the man who filled the void in Madrid in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo, given everything he has achieved at Chelsea. But he has not yet had the opportunity to scale those heights so far.
