Real Madrid fans have given their approval for the club to play their first home games of next season at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano – home of city rivals Atletico Madrid.

Atletico Madrid will allow to use the stadium

It comes as part of the plan for Los Blancos to start playing games again at their own Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, which has been undergoing refurbishment works for over a year. The move would allow the club to accommodate more fans into the stands than would be possible at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano at Real Madrid ‘s Valdebebas training ground. It’s not the first time that this proposal has been mooted in the past year, with Atleti offering up their stadium a year ago as Real Madrid embarked on their ground works. That didn’t happen in the end, but the two clubs have shared pitches at previous points in their history .

Survey from Spanish newspaper Marca

It was a Marca’s survey that canvassed fans’ opinions, asking two questions: “How do you feel about Real Madrid playing at the Wanda next season?” and “Should Atletico Madrid lend Wanda to Real Madrid ?” Both questions saw over 50,000 respondents, with the first question seeing a 70 percent approval rate. The second question saw 72 percent respond favorably.

This decision, however, has divided the white and mattress fans . For this reason, from MARCA we have consulted the readers. “Is it okay for you that Real Madrid request to play for Wanda next season?” and “Should Atlético de Madrid loan Wanda to Real Madrid?” They have been the questions that have had a participation of 54,624 responses and 53,219 respectively. 70% of people who answered the survey were in favor of Real Madrid to play their home games at Atletico next season and the 30% showed reluctance to do so. The percentages of the second question are also very similar and 72% welcomed positively the Atletico Madrid ceded the field while 28% has shown its refusal to such a collaborative project.
