Real Madrid will avoid any situations that put fans’ health at risk
Considering that Real Madrid could win the 2019/20 LaLiga title this Thursday, the authorities in the Spanish capital are already starting to think about possible celebrations of the title and how to deal with it during these times of coronavirus. Typically, Real Madrid fans gather at the Cibeles Fountain to celebrate their titles, and players even visit as part of an official party. However, the directors of Real Madrid are determined to avoid any situations that put supporters’ health at risk, and therefore they are unlikely to go to Cibeles this year. Instead, a celebration can be organized at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu later when it is safe. The City Council is even working on security measures to prevent fans from gathering spontaneously on Thursday or Sunday evening, trying to avoid repeating the kinds of scenes experienced in Cadiz after their promotion to LaLiga.
“Please do not celebrate in Cibeles,” said Madrid mayor Jose Luis Martinez Almeida. “Celebrate instead with Real Madrid flags on the balconies”. Health Minister Salvador Illa has had his say, referring to images from Cadiz. “We saw many images, such as the celebration of promotions that were worrying,” he said. “We can do many things at this stage, and we can have fun, but we cannot lose respect for the virus. Everyone must follow the recommendations.”
