After leaving Tottenham’s stadium on crutches, an emotional Richarlison acknowledged that his World Cup ambition was in jeopardy.
The 25-year-old seems destined to join Tite’s Selecao team as they pursue a record-breaking sixth global championship. But after Richarlison injured his calf during Spurs’ 2-0 victory against Everton, that is now much in doubt.
Richarlison only played 52 minutes against the team he left in the summer before hobbling off with the score tied. As a result of his departure, the home team changed their formation, and Yves Bissouma entered the game to help Antonio Conte’s team earn another Premier League victory.
Richarlison was reportedly inconsolable after learning he would miss the World Cup in Qatar instead of joyous scenes in the home dressing room. Then, in front of the assembled press, he made an appearance using crutches to demonstrate that he was unable to walk without them.
“It’s kind of hard to say because it’s so close to realizing my dream [playing at the World Cup]. I’ve already suffered an injury similar to this; I hope it can heal as soon as possible. or less. I was stopped about two months at Everton.
“I know it’s hard to talk right now, but let’s see, I’ll recover. Monday. I have tests to do, but even walking hurts. Let’s wait.”
“It’s all so close, it’s about a month to go, and we’ve been getting ready, working every day so that nothing serious can happen. Unfortunately, today I had this calf injury, but now it’s just a matter of waiting, doing the treatment every day so that I can recover as soon as possible.”
Conte swiftly announced that the striker would miss the match against Manchester United the following week. A comprehensive diagnosis is now anticipated in the next few days. “Yeah, for sure, he’s out against Manchester United. He felt something in his calf, and he won’t be available for that game,” Conte explained.
“I’m not sure, but I believe he needs some time to heal. It’s unfortunate since the player in question provides us with a lot of quality while also strengthening our intensity.
The injury was the only setback on another successful night for Conte and Spurs, who are off to their best start in 60 years. “I didn’t honestly know that [it was the best start,” he continued.
