While the majority of United’s supporters appear to be thrilled with the appointment of Ten Hag, fans of United’s Premier League opponents are skeptical that he would return the club to its former glory.
Many fans believe Ten Hag will follow in the footsteps of those who came before him and will be unable to ‘save’ the club from its decline.
Fans mocked Ten Hag’s appointment after it was announced that he will become the club’s fifth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
One Twitter user burst out laughing after claiming that Ten Hag would be ‘worse’ than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was ousted as Manchester United manager last November and replaced on an interim basis by Ralf Rangnick.
In his three years as United manager, Solskjaer failed to win any silverware, and Ten Hag has already stated that he will break the club’s five-year drought without a trophy when he takes over.
Ten Hag has created a reputation for himself in Holland, winning two league and cup doubles with Ajax, but his lack of experience in one of Europe’s “top five” divisions has led some to dismiss his chances.
An overly enthusiastic United supporter joked on Twitter that Ten Hag would be the “best manager of all time” if he was chosen. Pep Klopp, Mourinho, and Tuchel are all better than him.
Despite the fact that the tweet was intended to be humorous, one competitor fan responded by questioning, “What has he accomplished in Europe?”
Another claimed that Ten Hag would not last more than a year in the post, claiming that if he does not produce immediate success, United fans will demand his dismissal.

Another supporter concurred, simply stating that the Dutch coach will be unable to resolve the club’s current problems. ‘Erik ten Hag won’t save you, by the way,’ they said.
Ten Hag, according to one Arsenal supporter, will be one of the Premier League’s biggest flops.
