PSG has entered the competition to recruit Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, who wants to leave the club this summer.

Lewandowski, 33, has had a fantastic eight-year career at Bayern, scoring 344 goals in 375 games and winning eight Bundesliga crowns, three DFB-Pokals, and the Champions League.

In that time, he has also won a slew of individual awards, including the Ballon d’Or, which he almost missed out on in dramatic circumstances last year after scoring 42 goals in 2021.

However, Lewandowski has revealed his decision to quit Bayern and pursue a new challenge this summer, after adding another German crown to his collection last month.

‘It’s the end of my era at Bayern,’ he remarked earlier this month. ‘I don’t think I’ll be able to play for this club much longer.’

PSG have identified Lewandowski as a key target, and are eager to win the race to sign him.

Luis Campos, who was named football advisor at the Parc des Princes this week, is thought to be interested in strengthening the team’s offense ahead of the 2022/23 season.

PSG has been interested in Lewandowski for some time, but Bayern’s unwillingness to sell their star striker has prevented them from moving him to France.

However, with only a year left on his present deal, the Poland international might be available for a bargain.

PSG are trying to add him to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad as a replacement for the Mbappe-Messi-Neymar axis, which was overused in the previous season.

However, they may face competition from Barcelona for Lewandowski, who is also circling.

The Catalans are eager to make him the focal point of their frontline next season, something PSG will be unable to provide on a consistent basis given Messi’s presence.

While Barcelona is interested in Lewandowski, they have been unable to reach Bayern’s asking price after having a £30 million proposal rejected.

PSG has the financial means to pull it happen, but first they’d have to get rid of Mauro Icardi, who has fallen out of favor in Paris.

Given that Mbappe recently signed a new contract and Messi is entering the final year of his contract, Lewandowski’s arrival might put Neymar’s future in jeopardy.

Should Bayern forward Mario Gotze arrive in Paris, Neymar’s playing time might be curtailed, tempting him to seek a move elsewhere.
