Roberto Firmino has agreed a deal to join Barcelona when his Liverpool contract ends in June.

The Brazillina, Roberto Firmino will be a free agent in the summer upon expiry of his contract. This will bring to close his glittering eight-year stay at Anfield where he is no longer a regular starter in Klopp’s team.

Firmino has won the Champions League, the Premier League, the FA Cup, the League Cup and the Club World Cup since his £29million move from Hoffenheim in 2015.

Klopp has made it clear he would have liked to keep Firmino. He was even offered a new deal with the Reds but the 31-year-old has made up his mind to move on to a new challenge having struggled for consistent game time over time for the past two seasons.

Firmoni has suffered a hamstring injury and will miss the next three games. But Klopp remains hopeful he can return by the end of the season.

New signings Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo, from Benfica and PSV respectively, have edged Firmino further from the starting line-up.

Fan favourite Firmino has scored 109 goals in 360 appearances for Liverpool. He can expect an emotional farewell after the final home game of the season, against Aston Villa on May 20.

Now, Barcelona are said to have won the race for his signature and Firmino will join Xavi’s side. Barca, who are enduring well-documented financial troubles, are on course to win their first La Liga title since 2018 and want to strenghten their attack without breaking the bank as Lewandowski is currently their only recongnised striker.

Firmino’s exit was confirmed in March with Jurgen Klopp revealing how difficult it was for the much-loved-31-old to say goodbye. He said, “it was not an easy decision for him. The reception he got today was absolutely outstanding”.

Fabinho, his team-mate for club and country, also paid tribute following the triumph, He said, “Bobby (Firmino) is a very special guy. It’s great to have him as a team-mate. He’s a guy that everyone likes. It was really cool that he scored today, that he celebrated in that way. Everyone on the bench, on the field, celebrated with him, because he is the guy that everyone likes.”

The player agent, Roger Wittmann, revealed his client’s plans shortly after, with Italian giants Inter Milan notably credited with interest in securing Firmino’s services on a free transfer. “At the moment, I am not talking about the options on the table,” Wittmann declared to Calciomercato.

“Roberto is 100 per cent focused on completing the season and helping Liverpool in their race to qualify for the Champions League. The plan is this: once the club achieve their goals, Roberto and his family will start thinking about what and where the next challenge could be.”
