Five players are included in the list of Wisden Cricketer of the Year. Apart from India’s Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma, New Zealand opener Devon Conway, England fast bowler Ollie Robinson and South Africa women’s team captain Dane Van Knickerk are included in this list.
Indian team captain Rohit Sharma and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah have imprinted their names in prestigious list. Both of them are among the five players who have found a place in the list of Wisden Cricketer of the Year 2021. Former England captain Joe Root has been voted the leading cricketer of the year 2021. He had a stellar last year, scoring six hundreds while his team struggled to win matches.
Joe Root scored 1708 runs in 15 matches last year at an average of 61. This included six centuries and four half-centuries. He had played more than three thousand balls, but was out for zero only once.
Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma did a great job on India’s tour of England. Both of them performed individually well to deny England a home series victory. In the very first Test, Bumrah bagged nine wickets and Team India was close to victory, but the match was drawn due to rain. After this, he bowled amazingly at Lord’s and led his team to victory by dismissing Ollie Pope and Jonny Bairstow within two overs at The Oval. He took 18 wickets in India tour of England 2021.
Rohit also proved to be India’s best batsman throughout the tour. Batting against his nature, Rohit was instrumental in helping India take a 2-1 lead in the series. He played a brilliant innings of 83 runs in the difficult pitch of Lord’s. In the fourth Test, he scored 127 runs at Kennington Oval to lift India from the first innings lead. He scored 368 runs in the series at an average of 52.
Pakistan’s wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan has been chosen as the leading T20 cricketer. He scored 1329 runs in 27 T20 matches in 2021, which included 11 half-centuries. His average this year was 72.88. He also became the first cricketer in history to have scored more than 1000 runs in T20 cricket within a year.
