Lyon is highly respected for his maturity and love for the game. When he produces one of the best spells from a spinner on Indian soil, even opposing teams admire his stature.
During the post match press conference, Indian captain Rohit Sharma shares his honest thoughts about the quality Nathan Lyon has. He said, “I have not played guys like Murali and Shane Warne and all those guys. But to me in the current, probably the number one bowler to from the overseas to come and play here in India is Nathan Lyon, because he’s got so much consistency in his line and length, doesn’t give you too much someone’s bowling with that accuracy.”
Lyon has unshakeable trust in his stock ball, he’s not scared of conceding few runs. He doesn’t spend much runs, still it’s about definiteness of his attitude, he bowls where he thinks the batter will face trouble, and the attacking stand of batter will not make him change his line and lengths. He is very clear about his strengths and also a consistency of belief in that strengths.
“When he bowls, you got to try and do something different. Find your ways of scoring runs against him because you know that he’s not gonna give you anything easy. So you got to try and put him under pressure a little bit and then now obviously, you know, he played so much cricket as well for Australia. Very, very experienced bowler, he is not afraid of getting hit. That is something that I have noticed.”
“So yeah, that gives him a lot of confidence and that gives the captain as well a lot of confidence that, you know, I have got a guy who can just not worry about anything and I know he’s going to pitch it there. And let the pitch do the rest for him. So when you have someone like that you know gives you a lot of confidence as a whole,” said Rohit Sharma.
