Rohit Sharma is an exceptional white ball cricketer, now, scoring runs in Tests as well. He has also become the captain of all three formats and he has the responsibility of leading India to victory in the next two World Cups.
Along with this, Rohit also has to prepare the future captain. Rohit made his debut in India’s ODI team in 2013. Since then he never looked back. However, Rohit’s journey has not been as easy as scoring his runs. Rohit, who played for India at the age of 20, has gone through many ups and downs.
Rohit’s career started from Borivali, Mumbai. Here he used to play for the Borivali Sports and Cultural Association and wanted to become an off-spinner. At that time his fee was Rs 800 per month. When Dinesh Lad, the coach of Swami Vivekananda International School, was making his school’s team, he liked Rohit’s spin bowling.
He got Rohit admission in Vivekananda School and also got his fees waived, because Rohit’s parents could not give Rs 275 in school after paying Rs 800 every month in cricket coaching.
At Vivekananda School, the coach Dinesh saw Rohit batting one day and got him to open in the next match. Rohit played an innings of 140 runs and from here he started playing as a batsman. However, later he did not get a chance to open the innings and played as a batsman in the middle order. During this he also kept on bowling off-spin. Coach Dinesh Lad also gifted Rohit cricket kits and bats, as he understood the talent of a 13 years old and wanted him do well.
Rohit impressed the selectors every time as a batsman and under-14, under-15, under-19 went on to make a place in every team. He also made it to the India Under-19 team. In the year 2007, Rohit went to South Africa to play the T20 World Cup for India and scored a half-century against the hosts.
While opening the innings for India, Rohit made many records in his name. He scored three double centuries in ODIs. Also, he played a phenomenal innings of 264 runs, which is the highest individual score in ODI cricket. He has scored 27 centuries as an opener. In the ODI World Cup too, Rohit batted wonderfully and especially in the 2019 World Cup, where he scored 5 centuries. However, Team India could not win this tournament.
Rohit Rohit Sharma has the responsibility of winning two World Cups for India. India last became world champion in 2011. After this in 2013 won the Champions Trophy. In this tournament, Rohit shone as an opener. Since then India has not won any ICC tournament. At the same time, everyone has faith in Rohit, who made Mumbai the champion five times in the IPL and the responsibility of making India champion in the 2023 ODI World Cup along with the 2022 T20 World Cup is on Rohit’s shoulders.
