Roma are close to signing Georginio Wijnaldum on loan with an obligation to buy him permanently next summer.

A little about the topic

The Giallorossi are close to signing the Dutch midfielder from PSG. The Serie A side could strike a deal for Georginio Wijnaldum this weekend. The Giallorossi confirmed Dybala’s arrival on a free transfer and decided to announce their second signing of the week, bringing an international to the Netherlands. Georginio joined the Reds’ Paris Saint-Germain a year ago but is poised to leave the French club this summer after struggling to impress in Paris.

The Giallorossi are working on a one-year loan deal for the Dutch midfielder that will include a commitment to buy him at the end of the season for a fee of between €10m and €15m. Due to Georginio’s €9 million salary at Paris Saint-Germain, Roma is unable to pay full wages during the loan transition. Instead, Paris Saint-Germain will pay half of his salary during the season.

The Giallorossi are able to take advantage of Italy’s Decreto Crescita special rule, which allows them to pay less in taxes on contracts that run for two or more years worth more than €1 million per year. This means that the capital club can save on his salary if the player signs a long-term deal.

Activities of Georginio Wijnaldum for Paris Saint-Germain

Georginio Wijnaldum made promotion to Ligue 1 champions on a free transfer from the Reds after his Anfield contract expired. The Dutchman quickly fell out of the starting XI under Pochettino last season, leading him to admit he had a very difficult start and was not entirely happy with his position. In February, Georginio Wijnaldum clarified that his words were misinterpreted and that he was happy at the French capital club.

Overall, Georginio has made 31 appearances in Ligue 1 but has only started 18 of those matches and scored one goal and registered three assists. The midfielder also scored two goals in the Champions League, but only started two of his five competitive appearances.
