Ainsley Maitland-Niles becomes the last English star to travel to Italy.

What did Ainsley Maitland-Niles say?

Roma confirmed the loan of the Arsenal player. Ainsley Maitland-Niles is joining the Giallorossi for the remainder of the 2021-22 season after being caught in the mess at Emirates Stadium. Roma has no way to make the loan permanent. Roma head coach Jose Mourinho sees Ainsley as a player who can play across the midfield, offering Roma a much-needed boost amid manager complaints about the depth of the squad.

Talking about his move to Roma, Ainsley said he was delighted to be here and couldn’t wait to get started. According to Ainsley Maitland-Niles, he wants to contribute to the team and show what kind of player he is. Maitland-Niles would like to thank all the fans for the support they have shown him so far. Ainsley also said that they hope to do great things from here before the end of this season.

General manager of Roma Pinto added that with Ainsley they are bringing to Roma a young player who meets the requirements they were looking for to strengthen the team and who is able to play different roles. According to Tiago Pinto, when they spoke to Maitland-Niles, they were amazed at his enthusiasm to join their group and make himself available to Jose.

A little about the topic

Ainsley Maitland-Niles made his Arsenal debut during the 2014-15 season but truly broke out after two seasons with 28 appearances during the 2017-18 campaign. Maitland-Niles played 83 appearances over the next three seasons, but dropped down the order slightly under Arteta’s rule. He played just 11 times in this campaign, earning five England caps in 2020 after becoming a regular at Arsenal at Unai Emery.

Ainsley becomes the last English player to travel to Italy in search of more regular football. He joins Abraham and Smalling at Roma, the latter joining the club last summer after dropping out of Chelsea. Former Chelsea defender Tomori has also found a regular role in Italy with Milan’s squad.
