Roman Abramovich discusses the legacy he leaves behind as he prepares to be replaced at the top of the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

The Russian oligarch and outgoing owner of the Blues released a statement thanking players, staff and supporters as he prepares to relinquish total control of the PL club. Abramovich’s 19-year reign at Stamford Bridge is coming to an end, and a consortium led by Todd Booley has reached a £4.25 billion takeover deal with Chelsea. Roman’s also wished the new owners good luck in a statement, with an official announcement confirming the completion of their takeover expected on May 30th.
What did Roman Abramovich say?
Roman Abramovich said in a statement that almost three months have passed since he announced his intention to sell Chelsea FC. During this time, the team worked hard to find the right keeper for Chelsea, who would be the best to lead the club successfully into their next chapter.
According to Roman, owning this club comes with a lot of responsibility. Since Roman came to Chelsea almost twenty years ago, he has been a first-hand witness to what this club can achieve. The Russian says his goal was to ensure that the next owner had the mindset that would enable the men’s and women’s team to succeed, as well as the will and drive to continue to develop other key aspects of the club, such as the Academy and the vital work of the Chelsea Foundation.
Roman is glad that this search was successful. As he hands Chelsea over to his new keepers, he would like to wish them every success, both on and off the pitch. According to Roman Abramovich, it was a lifelong honor to be a part of this club – he would like to thank all past and current club players, staff, and of course fans for these incredible years.
