Belgian footballer Romelu Lukaku has brought Chelsea back into the Premier League title race, Redknapp says, following the striker’s big influence over Aston Villa.

A little about the topic

Lukaku – who hasn’t started any of the last 11 in the league due to injury and illness – was sent half-time 1-1. Within 11 minutes, he led them ahead with his first league goal since September. The Belgian then closed the eye-catching jogging performance to win a late penalty to complete the vital three points.

With Man City winning earlier on Boxing Day, Chelsea hasn’t been able to afford another jump up and are now on point level with second-tier Liverpool – who have a game in hand – six points behind the defending champions. It is still a big challenge for Chelsea to return to the top spot after disappointing results in recent weeks when they failed to turn dominance into goals. However, Jamie Redknapp says that with Romelu they fit back, they are right in the mixed double.

What did Redknapp say about Romelu Lukaku?

Jamie Redknapp said Romelu has single-handedly got his team back in this title race. They needed something, a spark, and that’s exactly what Lukaku brought. In the first half, they went nowhere quickly, the manager scratched his head, thinking what to do. The obvious thing was to bring Romelu Lukaku because they fought as hard with Pulisic in the first half as that of No. 9.

According to Jamie Redknapp, Konsa and Mings mocked Christian Pulisic. It was too easy for them. But when Tyrone Mings bumped into their goalkeeper a minute after Romelu came out, they knew they would be in a fight for the next 45 minutes. It sets the pace. Jamie says that from the first minute when Romelu Lukaku came, he just made such a difference and added that there is confidence in it. Everything started to click.
