The Belgian striker, Romelu Lukaku says he is staying at the Italian Champions, Inter Milan.
Former Chelsea and Manchester United striker, Lukaku, joined Inter Milan for £74m in 2019, scoring 64 goals in 95 games for the club. The Belgium International led the Italian side to a Serie A title in 11 years bringing an end to Juventus’ nine-year domestic winning cycle. Also, he was crowned league’s MVP for the 2020/21 season.
Back to his career history, Lukaku arrived in the Premier League in 2011 when he joined Chelsea from Anderlecht. He failed to score for the Blues in the first season, prompting the club to loan him out to West Brom and then Everton in successive seasons.
Eventually, he flourished after joining Toffees on a permanent deal in 2014. Here, Lukaku scored 53 goals across three seasons at Goodison Park which earned him a move to Old Trafford in 2017.
After two seasons of ups and downs in United, the striker signed for Inter on a five-year deal in 2019. It is at the Italian club where he has flourished in his career with his value rising to £100m.
However, recently, there have been speculations that the 28-year-old could be sold due to cost-cutting at the San Siro club- a move that led to manager Antonio Conte quitting last week. As a result, Lukaku has attracted interest from Chelsea and Manchester City for a transfer back to the Premier League.
But, speaking from Belgium’s training camp ahead of Euro 2020, Lukaku confirmed he will not be looking to pursue a move away from San Siro in the summer despite Conte’s exit and Simone Inzaghi’s impending arrival as the head coach.
He said, “Yes, I am staying. I’ve already had contact with the man who normally becomes our new manager. Maybe I shouldn’t stay that yet. But it was a very positive conversation”.
“There’s also the challenge of winning the League with Inter Milan again. I feel good at Inter”.
