Wife to Manchester United and Real Madrid icon David Beckham has expressed her pride over son Romeo who has signed his first professional football contract.
Victoria Beckham has left a touching public message for son Romeo after he penned his first professional football contract with American side Fort Lauderdale CF.
Romeo’s new side are the sister club of Inter Miami, who are owned by father David, with Fort Lauderdale plying their trade in League One of the United Soccer League, two divisions below the MLS.
The teenager was named in the match-day squad for the first time on Saturday but was an unused substitute during the 0-0 draw with Chattanooga Red Wolves SC.
He is rumored to have been training with both Fort Lauderdale and Inter Miami in recent weeks as he aims to follow in the footsteps of his famous footballing father.
Many saw the news as official when the bio on Romeo’s Instagram account was changed to “Footballer for @fortlauderdalecf”.
His Instagram profile is littered with pictures of him living his football dream, with snaps of the 19-year-old training alongside his Fort Lauderdale teammates accompanied with the caption “Follow your dreams.”
It was that post that was also met with a sweet message from his mother, former Spice Girl and fashion titan Victoria, who wrote underneath the picture: “We are so proud of you Romeo.”
It has been somewhat of a mixed season for Fort Lauderdale, who currently sit in fourth place in the third-tier League One standings after 21 games played.
Their record reads seven wins, five draws and nine defeats with a points total of 26, eight points off of top spot.
Moreover, Romeo’s footballing career does not come as much of a surprise, given Victoria explained to Vogue how her son had been putting in the hard work earlier this year.
She said: “Romeo has been training with the team over here [Inter Miami] every day, because ultimately that’s what he wants to do.”
