The coach is not happy at a supposed lack of communication, and he discussed it on Friday.
Koeman hasn’t felt the confidence of the club
Ronald Koeman’s future is very much up in the air, and the Dutchman spoke out about this in his final pre-match press conference of the season, which could be his last pre-match media appointment at Barcelona. The coach is not happy at a supposed lack of communication, and he discussed it on Friday. “In the final stretch of the season, I haven’t felt the confidence of the club,” he said at a press conference. “We haven’t talked about my future, and I understand that there are doubts about the results. I understand that changes have to happen to win things. If they think there is a need for another coach or other players, then that’s ok, but that has to be communicated.”
According to Ronald, it wasn’t a bad season for Barcelona in general
“Referring to the last few months, I think you should respect your coach more and the players more. I understand if players are hurt by what has come out in the press lately. They don’t deserve that kind of treatment. There are a lot of things that should be done differently.” Analysing the season as a whole, he said he would have considered this a good campaign at the beginning of the year. “I think in August we would have accepted this season, where we fought for the championship until the last two or three games. The problem is that we played, and because of how we won the Copa del Rey, we gave more hope. There were matches when we had no time for that, but I think it was not bad in general with the problems that we had. That wasn’t good either.”
In the final match of the season, some players will not be there, as they were given early vacation, and Koeman explained this. “There are three or four players who have given tremendous effort,” he said. “I don’t want to say that the others didn’t, but there are three who have had a huge load, like Lionel Messi, Pedri and Frenkie de Jong. I hope Pedri goes to Euro 2020 and Messi has the Copa America. De Jong was suspended last week, so that he will be there tomorrow.”
