Paul Pogba continues to disappoint at Old Trafford and Wayne Rooney says it’s time to move on.
What did Wayne Rooney say?
Wayne Rooney said the French international is probably about to find a new club. Manchester United’s record signing returned to Old Trafford with great fanfare in 2016 but has so far failed to match its high price tag with inconsistent performance. And with Pogba’s contract due to end in the summer, Wayne feels it’s time for the 29-year-old to move on.
Wayne Rooney said he thinks it’s gotten to the point where it’s probably better if he moves on. According to Rooney, if Pogba is honest with himself, he probably wouldn’t have had the impact he wanted since he returned. Rooney watches Paul Pogba play for France and he’s a completely different player. His ability, his vision, his control of the game is in every game for France.
It didn’t quite work out for Paul in Man Utd and Wayne thinks there are a few players they need to let go. Putting pressure on why Paul didn’t work out at Old Trafford, Wayne Rooney added that there hasn’t been a settled manager since the days of Ferguson. So whoever comes in, they have to give them time to build relationships with the players.
Who did Wayne support?
The Red Devils are in the market for a new head coach at the end of the season, with Rangnick currently holding an interim position at the club. Wayne has given former Spurs and current Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino his support for Ajax’s Erik ten Hag, although he reiterated that whoever comes will take time to solidify their credibility and vision for the club.
Wayne Rooney said it now takes time for managers to put their plan on the club. If you give him time, he will be fine. According to Rooney, he knows how to work with top class players and young players, and Wayne thinks they need to get this mix right because they can’t afford to fail again.
