While Roy Keane predicts Brazil will win this year’s World Cup in Qatar, Gary Neville thinks England will make it to the semifinals.
On Sunday, the tournament kicks off with a game between the hosts and Ecuador. While England opens their tournament against Iran on November 23, betting favorites Brazil kick off their campaign against Serbia on the same day.
Even though England is full of confidence after reaching the final of Euro 2020 just 14 months ago, Neville predicts that they will be eliminated in the semi-finals this year. It’s been four years since Gareth Southgate’s England team made it to the semifinals in Russia.
Neville said, “You’ve got to love the World Cup.” “Some people might be offended by the switch from a Premier League game to a World Cup game so close to Christmas, and the timing of the two events raises questions. The football, the players, and the fans will take over once we get into. it”.
“For the past two decades, we’ve blamed the weather or the difficulty of the Premier League for every tournament’s end. We should be fine now that the World Cup is being held in the winter”.
“We are as prepared as we have been since 1966, and our current roster of players is more confident than ever that they can advance to the playoffs. We’ll do fine, and we should be able to advance to the semifinals. Something about Gareth Southgate helps him get results.”
Southgate must help England win a major trophy for the first time in 56 years in Qatar. Under his guidance, the Three Lions have come close to winning a trophy twice in 2019 (they placed third in both the Nations League and the World Cup qualifying tournaments).
