The Saints confirm Gavin Bazunu transfer
Gavin Bazunu will move out of the Etihad Stadium after putting pen to paper on a long-term deal with Southampton.
A little about the topic
The Saints have completed the transfer of the Man City goalkeeper to the Irish footballer, the club confirmed, with the player making a £12m move to St Mary’s Stadium. The player, who spent the last two seasons on loan with Rochdale and Portsmouth, arrives from the Etihad Stadium on a contract that will keep him on loan until the summer of 2027. Gavin Bazunu marks the end of Guardiola’s four-year stint on the NXGN graduate Citizens books where the player failed to make an older appearance, and sees him arrive to help fill in Forster’s shoes following the latter’s departure to Spurs.
What did Gavin Bazunu say?
Ireland international Gavin Bazunu told the club’s website after confirming his takeover that he was delighted to be here. According to Gavin Bazunu, it’s been in the works for a few weeks and he’s really happy that they have everything beyond and he’s just excited to see what’s ahead. Bazunu feels that this is the place where he can come and develop and learn his game. The biggest thing is the possibility that Gavin can come here and have a chance to play regular football. Just giving this opportunity to fight for his place is the most he could ask for.
Southampton head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl was equally pleased to secure a move, adding that as a club they are always on the lookout for young talent and Bazunu is a very exciting addition to the squad. They believe he has huge potential for improvement and will give them more competition for places in the goalkeeping department. According to Hasenhuttl, Gavin Bazunu is a goalkeeper with a very modern style of play, comfortable in the build-up phase, who developed physically through some very important credit moves early in his career. Ralph Hasenhuttl says that coming here gives him more opportunities to develop his game through the PL.
