Former Sri Lankan cricket captain, Sanath Jayasuriya, has been appointed as the interim head coach of the national men’s cricket team until the end of the England tour in September. This announcement was made by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) in an official press release on Monday, July 8.

Jayasuriya, who currently serves as a cricket consultant for SLC, will begin his new role immediately. His appointment follows the resignations of head coach Chris Silverwood and consultant Mahela Jayawardene after a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign for Sri Lanka.

The legendary all-rounder’s first task as interim head coach will be the upcoming white-ball series against India, consisting of three ODIs and three T20Is starting on July 27. SLC CEO, Ashley de Silva, expressed confidence in Jayasuriya’s ability to lead the team and bring stability to Sri Lankan cricket.

“Sanath with his extensive international cricketing experience is well-equipped to steer the national team until a permanent solution is found,” stated de Silva in the official press release. Fans and supporters of Sri Lankan cricket will be eager to see how Jayasuriya’s leadership impacts the team’s performance in the upcoming series.
