Sancho, Abraham and Chilwell Arrival in England Camp Delayed
Jadon Sancho and Ben Chilwell broke UK lockdown rules by attending Tammy Abraham’s birthday party of more than six people on Saturday night which has seen their England camp arrival delayed.
Winger Jadon Sancho alongside fellow Three Lions international Ben Chilwell attended Tammy Abraham’s 23rd surprise birthday party over the weekend. Images of the party surfaced the internet on Sunday night.
According to The Sun, more than 20 people attended the party. It’s therefore understood they broke the “Rule of Six” law implemented by the UK Government as a COVID-19 precaution measure.
Their actions have resulted in a statement from the FA. It read “Abraham, Sancho and Chilwell’s arrival at the England training camp ahead of the fixtures against Wales, Belgium and Denmark this week will be delayed”.
However, in a statement, Sancho admitted he didn’t know the number of guests attending the event before his arrival. He posted on Instagram, “I would like to apologize for breaking the government guidelines. And although I was unaware upon arriving at the numbers attending, I take full responsibility for my actions. I will make sure moving forward that I learn from this”.
On the other hand, Abraham claimed he didn’t know about the party until he arrived at his home with Chilwell.
In his apology, the Chelsea forward wrote, “I arrived home to find a small surprise gathering. Though I was totally unaware this was planned, I would like to wholeheartedly apologize for the naivety shown for the organization and attending of this gathering”.
“All I can do now is learn from it, apologize to everyone, and ensure it never happens again”.
Controversy Surrounding England Players
The latest controversy surrounding England players breaking coronavirus lockdown rules follows Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden scandal which dominated talks in September.
Right after making their England debut against Iceland, Greenwood and Foden invited to girls into their hotel room. Their actions breached the Covid-19 bubble set up by the England squad.
Gareth Southgate sent the two players home and the pair has not been included in the current Three Lions Squad.
Raheem Sterling has also pulled out of the England triple-header through injury.
