Sane has been forced to serve his entire 2019-20 campaign after undergoing surgery on his right knee after City defeated Liverpool in August. The 24-year-old was a crucial player in Pep Guardiola’s team for the first three seasons at Etihad Stadium, he played 134 matches in all competitions and scored 39 goals. City missed German international in the final third of the field this season. It seems destined to lose the third consecutive crown of the Premier League after falling 25 points behind the selected champions of Liverpool.

Sane’s return suspended

Leroy has just returned to full training on time for the decisive run of seats. Which included the last 16 meetings of the Champions League with Real Madrid. Still, the outbreak of coronavirus led to the suspension of all domestic and European competitions. Waiting for the winger to return to the field extended. But now he opened up for the support that he received behind the scenes in the most challenging period of his career to date. Gundogan and Mendy had experienced similar layoffs with injuries in the past, and Sane was grateful that the couple would be in their arms for any advice and guidance. “The whole team, of course, supported me,” the official site of the club quotes the words of the City star.

“But I mainly spoke with Gundogan and Mendy a little more about the injury. About what they did, what could happen, and about their experience with everything.

You have to put pressure on yourself

“It helped me a lot to learn how certain things feel and what can happen. It helped me, and I’m happy that they pushed me along with it.”Sane added about how he remained focused on building up his strength during his extended stay on the side. “It was the worst and longest injury I have ever had in my career.”Especially the first day after the operation, because you can’t move at all, and that’s not what any of us athletes are used to. “You have to put pressure on yourself every day because you know that this is a long rehabilitation. But this is a good opportunity to work more on other weaknesses, and therefore I took it as a chance to recover well and return strong.”
