Zimbabwean Cricketer Sean Williams Retires from T20Is after Bangladesh Series

After an illustrious career in T20 Internationals, Zimbabwe all-rounder Sean Williams has announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game. The decision came after the conclusion of the recently concluded five-match T20I series in Bangladesh, where Williams bid farewell with a consolation victory for his team.

Bangladesh dominated the series by winning the first four matches, but Zimbabwe managed to salvage some pride with a win in the final game. Williams, who featured in just the first and last match of the series, will continue to represent his country in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Test matches.

A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official confirmed to Cricbuzz that Williams informed his teammates about his retirement from T20Is following the final game. The left-hander played a total of 81 T20Is for Zimbabwe, scoring 1691 runs at a strike rate of 126.38 and taking 48 wickets with his left-arm spin.

Interestingly, Williams played his first and last T20I matches in Bangladesh, with his debut dating back to 2006. He also had the honor of captaining Zimbabwe’s T20I side after Elton Chigambura’s retirement in 2019.

Williams’ retirement marks the end of an era in Zimbabwean cricket, and fans will surely miss his contributions to the team in the T20 format. However, they can look forward to watching him showcase his skills in ODIs and Test matches in the future.
