Sebastian Haller failed to live up to expectations in East London but quickly rebuilt his reputation at the Johan Cruyff ArenA.

A little about the topic

The Ivorian striker explained why his £45m transfer to West Ham failed, admitting that he didn’t enjoy his time in the PL very much. West Ham paid a club-record fee to sign the striker from Eintracht Frankfurt in July 2019 after seeing him score 24 goals over two seasons in the Bundesliga. Sebastian Haller never settled into the London Stadium, scoring just 15 goals in 54 games, and the Hammers cut their losses there when Ajax called last January.

What did Sebastian Haller say?

West Ham let the striker go to the Johan Cruyff Arena for just £18m, but he has since rebuilt his reputation in flashy fashion. Sebastian Haller has found the net 41 times in his first 51 appearances for Ajax, with 28 of those coming in the 2021-22 campaign. Sebastian’s performance in the Champions League attracted the most attention as he became the first man to score in his first six runs in the competition while reaching double figures faster than any other player in group stage history.

West Ham supporters didn’t see the best of the striker because Moyes wasn’t playing to his strengths, he now claimed to have been brought in by Pallegrini, but then Moyes came in and they were in a situation where they were… trapped. He was playing with a system he didn’t like. David Moyes preferred someone like Michail Antonio and he is very happy that he is doing so well; he is for all the guys in West Ham.

He had a good time there with them, but he was also really angry at the situation, with the way they play, the way he plays, the way he feels. Asked if he has any bad regard for David for the way his career at the Hammers has turned out, Sebastian Haller replied that he doesn’t want to blame David. Sometimes the playing style doesn’t suit the player and Haller wasn’t the striker he needed. And Sebastian wasn’t his signing either. According to Sebastian Haller, if they bring in players as a manager that cost money to the club, they need to show that they are not mistaken.
