Sergio Ramos is free to negotiate to Premier League clubs while the January transfer window is open. And Real Madrid have yet to offer their captain a new contract. Ramos’ status as a Real Madrid legend has long been assured. As the Spain international has helped the club win five LaLiga titles and four European Cups since joining Santiago Bernabeu from Sevilla back in 2005. The centre-back has amassed 666 appearances for Los Blancos. He scored a staggering 100 goals from the defence. And despite turning 35 in March, remains one of the first names on Zinedine Zidane’s squad. However, Ramos has just entered the final six months of his contract. And it has been speculated that he could move to a new challenge away from the Bernabeu at the end of the season.
The defender is awaiting an extension offer from Real Madrid
The World Cup winner is still awaiting an extension offer from the club. Amid rumours of interest from Tottenham and Manchester United in the English top flight. Now that the winter market is open, Ramos can negotiate a pre-contractual agreement with any potential suitors if he chooses to do so. Real Madrid is risking losing a valuable asset if they don’t get an extension move. Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez will also sink into the free agency pool in June. Still, Zidane expressed his desire for the couple to stay in the Spanish capital alongside Ramos for the foreseeable future during a press conference at the weekend. “We all want contracts to be signed,” the Frenchman told reporters. “We want the situation to be sorted out as quickly as possible.”
“It is in everyone’s interest, it would be good for everyone. So hopefully it can be resolved quickly”. Ramos missed Real Madrid’s last LaLiga game after a reported decline with a stomach illness. But could be in tune to return in time for a trip to Osasuna on January 9. Zidane’s side now sits second in the Liga table, two points behind local rivals Atletico Madrid, having played two games more.
