AS Roma vs Verona

A top-four finish was the minimum requirement at the start of the season, but with the gap to the top four widenings, Roma can’t afford any more slip-ups.

AS Roma

Roma manager Jose Mourinho didn’t get the response he wanted last time out as his side were held to a 2-2 Serie A draw at Sassuolo despite taking the lead. A top-four finish was the minimum requirement at the start of the season, but with the gap to the top four widenings, Roma can’t afford any more slip-ups. A goal difference that is their lowest at this stage of a Serie A campaign since 2012/13 suggests that problems are mounting at both ends for ‘I Giallorossi’. Another draw here would at least extend Roma’s longest unbeaten run of this league campaign but will make it three Serie A draws in a row for the first time since January 2016! The third result on that prior occasion was against Hellas Verona, a side that actually handed Mourinho his first defeat of this SA campaign in the reverse fixture (3-2).

Verona

That victory gives Verona a chance to land a first top-flight H2H season double over Roma since 1968/69, but their previous away H2H record isn’t so strong. That’s because their last Serie A away H2H win came way back in January 1973 which they’ve followed up with an L19 record since! Yet with all of Verona’s away Serie A wins this campaign coming across their last five trips, the stars may be aligning for the away side to secure a rare H2H road victory. The Gialloblù’ also arrive in the Italian capital full of confidence after picking up a 4-0 win last time out versus Udinese, their fifth SA game this season where they netted 4 goals, the most by any team!

With 11 Serie A goals so far, Roma’s Tammy Abraham can become the first Englishman since 1962/63 to score 12 goals in a Serie A campaign – he’s netted the match opener in five of his last six Serie A scoring appearances. Meanwhile, Verona’s Antonin Barak has scored the second goal of the match in six of his last seven Serie A scoring games, including the reverse fixture. No Serie A side has conceded more goals beyond the 75th minute than Verona this season (15).
