Several teams have already knocked on Marcelo’s door following the end of his contract with Real Madrid. The left-back, who arrived in Spain in January 2007, is now looking for a new adventure at the age of 34, and he is not short of options. The Brazilian has been a free agent for three weeks now, and he is convinced that he still has enough left to perform at the top level, which has been reflected in several proposals from different parts of the world. Several teams have recently been interested in the wing-back, and the first to do so was Pablo Longoria’s Marseille. In the last few hours, Serie A side Lazio have also jumped on the bandwagon. The Roman club have taken the first step to finding out the player’s intentions when it comes to competing at a high level.

Marcelo has been linked with Monza

Marcelo played tiny last season, but a new challenge could give him a new lease of life. In fact, in Italy, they are already talking about the media impact that the arrival of the former Real Madrid captain would have on the team. He has also been linked with Monza. Initially, Marcelo’s market seemed to be outside of Europe, or at least away from the elite leagues. Qatar, Turkey and the UAE appeared as initial destinations. Still, little by little, he has been attracting the interest of several European teams, despite the player seemingly assuming he’d end up in a minor league like many retiring players. Turkey was the most obvious destination. He would continue to play in a team with European competition and would also have the Brazilian players playing in Turkey to help him adapt to the championship.

But the Brazilian wanted to stay on the continent to continue playing, and Lazio could be the place we next see him. Lazio are fishing in Spain during this market. They have taken Luis Maximiano from Granada for 11.2 million euros and Real Madrid youth player Mario Gila for just over six million euros. If they take Marcelo for free, it would complete the trident.
