Sevilla sporting director Monchi has admitted that the Andalusian club failed when it came to the way in which Sergio Ramos’ departure from the club was handled back in 2005.

Ramos joined Real Madrid 15 years ago

The centre-back made the switch to Real Madrid for 27 million euros and now, almost 16 years on, he has announced that he will leave the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu when his contract expires on June 30 and become a free agent. When asked about Ramos’ departure from Sevilla, Monchi wished that he had handled it in a similar manner to the way that he did with Jose Antonio Reyes’ sale to Arsenal. Monchi said that It makes me sad. I would like to make a statement in favour of Sergio,” Monchi said during an interview on Canal Sur with former referee Antonio Jesus Lopez Nieto. Just as the sale of Reyes earned us a lot, so did the sale of Sergio. Maybe we all got the messaging wrong. I raise my hand as the main one, because we were not able to sell that sale as well as we did with Jose Antonio.

Connection between Ramos and Reyes

Reyes was always loved and Sergio. Monchi said that I hope that time will heal those wounds and he will be recognized for what he was: a magnificent player who gave us a lot.” Some have linked Ramos with a potential return to Sevilla, his first club, but he didn’t sound so optimistic during his farewell press conference. Sevilla is a club in my heart, but right now I’m not contemplating that option and I don’t know if they’d consider me,” the 35-year-old said. As of now, Ramos is leaving Real Madrid. Reportedly, Ramos will play for PSG soon because the owner of the team is a big fan of Spanish defender.
