Shane Warne’s Funeral: Warne departs with state honours, Shane Warne Stand inaugurated in Melbourne

Australia’s legendary leg-spinner Shane Warne was given a final farewell at the stadium in Melbourne. Legendary cricketers from all over the world and many fans of Warne also attended the event. Warne died on March 4 in Thailand. He was 52 years old.

Warne died of natural causes and this was revealed in the autopsy report. Thai officials also confirmed this. After this, his body was brought to Australia by a chartered plane.

The Shane Warne Stand was also inaugurated at the Melbourne Stadium during Warne’s last visit. Warne’s three children Brooke, Jackson and Summer inaugurated the stand.

In Melbourne itself, Warne completed 700 wickets in Tests in 2006 by dismissing England batsman Andrew Strauss.

This stand was earlier known as the Great South Stand, which has been renamed as Shane Warne Stand. It was announced earlier, but now officially the name of this stand has been changed.

Shane Warne’s last journey

Earlier, some close people including his family members paid tribute to Warne. Former Australia captain Allan Border, Mark Taylor, Michael Clarke and some of Warne’s close friends attended the occasion.

Cricketers from all over the world attended Warne’s last visit. These included Brian Lara, Glenn Maxwell and many other veterans. Several former Australian cricketers attended the ceremony.

Shane Warne

In a cricketing career spanning 15 years, Shane Warne took 708 wickets in 145 Tests. He is second only to former Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan in terms of taking the most wickets. Apart from this, Warne also has 291 wickets in 193 ODIs.

All the preparations were done in advance for Shane Warne’s last journey. He was one of Australia’s greatest cricketers and was part of the Australian team that won several World Cups.
