Sheffield United is “prepared to cover Jesse Lingard’s £100,000-per-week wages as Chris Wilder targets loan deal for the Manchester United outcast”.

Chris Wilder’s side are looking to get their season up and running with some reinforcements in the January transfer window. This after they endured the worst start in the top-flight history.

Sheffield’s 3-2 defeat by United on Thursday evening marked their 12th in the 13 matches with their solitary point coming in a 1-1 draw against Fulham in October.

The side might be restricted to loan deals in the window, however, after spending £53 million on a new signing in the summer transfer window. With Championship football a real possibility next season, they need to be wary of their spending.

Moreover, Wilder is understood to have held talks with Solskjaer after the match with Lingard clearly not in the Norwegian’s plans. Lingard has not played in the Premier League all season and the first time he started for the side was on New Year’s Day.

Lingard has only six months on his contract though it’s believed United might trigger a one-year extension in order to receive a fee for him at the end of the season.

It’s a fall from grace for Lingard, who has made over 200 appearances for the side and played a key role in England’s march towards the World Cup semi-finals in 2018

Sheffield United could come at a crossroads in the deal though, with the club expected to cover the majority of his £100,000-per-week wages.
