Ish Sodhi plays for New Zealand but his family roots belong to Lahore. The leg spinner played two T20I matches and three ODIs at Lahore in the recently concluded new Zealand tour of Pakistan.

The white ball series is over, New Zealand successfully drew the T20I series but they had to bear 4-1 loss in the ODI series. We all know how friendly and respectful this New Zealand side is, they are truly the nicest guys in world cricket.

Cricket Pakistan shared a video of Ish Sodhi and Agha Salman having a conversation before the New Zealander leaves for home. Some general information about his life and his heritage belonging from city of Lahore.

Ish Sodhi told Salman that his family belongs from Lahore, his grandmother and mother’s side, both belonged to Lahore but they moved to India after Indo-Pak partition. Sodhi confessed that he felt very special while playing on Lahore, it was similar as reconnecting to his ancestral roots.

Sodhi also shared few words about his journey to playing cricket for New Zealand. He said that he started bowling spin when he was 12 years old, got benefit and height and was pretty handy with the bat.

In the 90s, there was an off spinner in the New Zealand team named Deepak Patel and Sodhi certainly followed his footsteps. But his idols were Shane Warne, Anil Kumble and late Abdul Qadir. Anyone who’s aware of impact of leg spinners in cricket world will certainly know all these names.

While talking about his other hobbies except cricket, Sodhi’s answer was quite unique and well versed at the same time. Sodhi is now father of a three years old, her name is Laxmi Sodhi and he said that he named her daughter after the Hindu goddess of prosperity Laxmi.

Being a Punjabi guy at the heart, Sodhi told that he enjoys rap music and his favourite rapper is late Sidhu Moosewala but he also enjoys works of English and American rappers.

New Zealand lost the series, they won’t be too disheartened by the result. Their entire top order was quite new except Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls. A newly emerging team that has now valuable experience of playing in alien conditions.

Sodhi said that similar that the young New Zealand team has now some experience under its belt. Guys like Henry Shipley, Will Young and Mark Chapman seized the opportunity to play individually decisive role in particular matches.
