Magala made debut for South Africa in 2021 and has played only 4 T20i matches, and picked 3 wickets. His performance came in a four match T20I series against Pakistan when they toured South Africa.
Kyle Jamieson was the first choice seamer but unfortunately, he will miss the season. He was bagged in by CSK for a big price of 1 crore but shorty before test series against England, Jamieson suffered from lower back stress fracture which has pushed him out of cricket field for at least 4 months.
Magala went unsold in IPL auction but because of his impressive performance in SA20 and soon after in ODIs against England, he was in sight of CSK selectors. Despite being unsold in IPL auction, CSK decided to pick him up for base price of 50 lakhs.
In his only 4 match T20I career, Magala has leaked over 9 runs per over. But he was quite good during SA20 playing for Sunrisers Eastern Cape. With special ability to swing the ball late in air, he was quite successful in picking wickets in first six overs.
In total, Magala finished with 14 wickets in the tournament with a economy of little over 8. Making comeback in international cricket, he went on to pick a fifer and changing the game on its head in middle overs.
Chennai Super Kings will play its first match against current champions Gujarat Titans led by Hardik Pandya. It is unlikely that Sisanda Magala will regularly feature in CSK’s squad.
Magala is currently part of South African squad facing West Indies at home. He can get place in the second match taking place on Tuesday. After that, Netherlands will tour South Africa and Magala will definitely be in that squad so he will not be joining CSK in the beginning on IPL 2023.
