Solskjaer defended Phil Jones from criticism from Ferdinand, saying the former Man Utd defender was out of order for his comments.

Phil Jones had a tough time

Phil Jones has struggled with injuries throughout his time at Old Trafford and has not made a single appearance for the club since January 2020. Rio Ferdinand said this week that his former team-mate should be a thing of the past and is taking up a squad spot that could be given to a youth player.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was offended by the criticism of the ex-England star, as he was in the same situation as Phil in his playing days. Solskjaer said at a press conference that Phil Jones had an awful 18-19 months and probably a year before, as well as injuries. Phil Jones don’t fuss, keep the guy type with him. Ole thinks it is out of order entirely from Rio Ferdinand.

Ole Gunnar knows like no one else what it is like to be injured at this stage. He is not yet 30 years old. Ever since Solskjaer came here, Phil has been struggling with a knee injury, put his body on the line. Phil Jones never did anything but give everything to the club.

Ole was two years in three years with a knee injury. Phil Jones fought valiantly. Phil will be there. For Ole, as a manager, seeing the light at the end of the tunnel is great because Ole went through the same thing.

Phil Jones’ activities for Man Utd

Phil Jones joined Utd from Blackburn in 2011 and made 29 Premier League appearances in his debut season. But the England of the Internationale was stricken with injury the following year and has since failed to go through a full campaign. In total, played in 224 matches for the Red Devils in all competitions. The 29-year-old may have been on his way back, nevertheless, finding himself in a friendly behind closed doors against Burnley this month.
