The Tottenham forward, Son Heung-Min has traveled back to London after completing compulsory national service in South Korea.

Son Heung-min spent three weeks with the South Korean Military Corps where he finished among the top five performers.

He made his way back to London on Saturday. Upon return, the 27-year-old is not required to self-isolate unless he tests positive for coronavirus and will be free to join training when it resumes.

This means Son is set to be back at the club’s Hotspur Way training ground next week for solo sessions. He could be free to join in group training as and when the Premier League allows it.

The coronavirus pandemic has allowed Son to fully recover from a broken arm which looked set to rule him out for the season while giving him a chance to carry out his national service without impacting his career.

Son was due to serve for 21 months but earned an exemption after being part of his national team which won the Asian Games in 2018. As a result, the 27-year-old has to complete three weeks only.

Sungmo Lee spent two years in the Republic of Korea army and recently gave an insight into what Son Heung-Min underwent in the military training.

He said, “There is no private life in the military and that will most likely be the same for Son. In my experience, there are around 50 to 60 soldiers in each platoon and that will basically be his group for the whole of basic training. They sleep in groups of about 15, no single beds, and eat three meals in a day together.”

“It doesn’t matter whether or not Son is a big star. He will not be treated specially in the military during his training. I’m sure he understands that already like 99% of South Korean men go through this at some point in their lives.”
